Stupidity attempting to be smart.

I started using my "new" com about 2 days ago. It was running on Windows 8 and I really hated it, so I decided to downgrade it to Windows 7. My brother said that he had the CD for it so I thought, "might as well." BUT, downgrading wasn't as easy as I thought that it would be. Well, actually it was sorta but I made it slightly difficult.

I just opened the setup in the CD and let the thing run. But, when restarting, the com needed to decide whether to run Windows 8 or Win7 setup (CD). But when I tried to run the setup, an error appeared.

I decided to check online on my mom's com to see if I could fix things. There were 2 options given which could be accessed via the BIOS menu thingy (I have no idea what it is).

1. Disable secure boot
2. Enable legacy boot

Don't ask me what they are, I have no clue. So, I decided to go with the secure boot thing because it sounded more familiar than "legacy". It managed to go past the error screen but when Windows was starting, it just hanged at the logo screen. Pretty frustrating huh.

Then I decided to try out  this legacy boot thing. I read the little info they gave to describe what it does. Apparently, if you enable legacy boot, you can run Windows 7 and below. But if you disable it, you can only run Windows 8. So I guess that meant that I would have to turn it on. And it worked!

Okay, I'm pretty silly because when the Windows 7 setup was complete, I panicked; there was no wireless, ethernet cable doesn't help, and I can't even use the usb port. I was like shit shit shit. I thought that if I returned back to Windows 8, it would be better.

And so, I went to disable the legacy boot so as to run Windows 8 again. BUT!!!! Because I'm such a noob with this thing who doesn't read up enough and just goes ahead without hesitation, I hadn't partition the hard drive. If I'm not wrong, because I hadn't partitioned it, Windows 7 just overwrote my Windows 8. MEANING, my com doesn't have Windows 8 any more. NO MORE!

So, while I was still silly, thinking that I was so smart so as to disable the legacy boot, the com isn't able to start. Because legacy boot is disabled, it can only run Windows 8 (which was no more) and NOT Windows 7. OH MY GOODNESS. *big gasp*

And the thing was, I couldn't bring up the BIOS menu during bootup. *dramatic music* which meant, that I couldn't enable legacy boot. I felt so so stupid, because my apparently new com is now redundant. *CRIES*

After many tries later, I managed to get the BIOS menu up somehow. I don't really know how, I just randomly pressed the buttons, and I finally got back to Windows 7. Now, to download the drivers. BUT HOW? There was not internet connection or usb connection. DIE! .-. My only resort was to try using a CD to transfer, and if didn't work, I'm a total goner.

It worked! :D And I managed to download the drivers on. Some took a lot of tries because the drivers were meant for Windows 8 and not 7 so I had to keep trying over and over again different drivers. I finally managed to get the ethernet on and soon the wireless (which took me like a whole day to get). Now the only thing left is bluetooth; it can't send/receive via bluetooth so I have to keep working on that. But that is not really crucial so I'll just take my time.

So now finally I can enjoy my "new" com in Windows 7. Stupid Windows 8.
