The haze in Singapore is just getting from bad to worse. I know it's like a usual occurrence every year to have some form of haze but this time, it's just freaking over the line. Whenever there's haze last time, I'll just be like "meh" and walk out because it's not in the unhealthy range. Now, you can't even do that. Okay, maybe not "can't" but really, you
shouldn't.
According to NEA, a PSI reading above 300 is hazardous.
But still, I see people walking around in the haze without any form of protection. Worse still, they bring their little infants/toddlers/children out. I mean like, fine, it's your own life, so just endanger yourself whatever. But why let the children be exposed to such unhealthy air? Already at home with some windows open, I cannot
tahan already. What more about being outside?
With this kind of haze, it's really hard to breathe and think. I think people with a more serious asthma condition will suffer if they go out just like that.
Sometimes I feel like Indonesia is selfish. I think maybe since I was born or before that, the haze has been going on already. I know that the farmers need new fertile land to regrow their crops but, at whose expense? I have always wondered since the haze in Singapore is so bad now, how about the haze in Indonesia? But maybe they would have it easier since all their pollution is being blown to us. ):
So I think they don't understand how serious this whole burning is. They don't actually have to witness the haze. And it's also a hard decision for our government. Sure, as the people we can get angry with the Indonesian government's lack of concern over this issue. But if our government were to get angry and wage war, we'll most likely make an enemy. It's like some touchy issue. Offering help to them can imply that Indonesia is incapable of solving their internal affairs. What more of help being offered from a smaller country to a much larger one.
I just wish everyone would just be sensible and a little bit more selfless in this whole thing. The farmers/companies doing the burning, and the government of the country which is the source of the problem. If you actually think about it, I don't think this haze would actually disappear. It would just continue to circulate around the world and just pollute the whole earth. Right? .-.
Now, I can't even see past the nearest HDB flat from my house.
It's best to wear a mask - don't have to feel paiseh about it. Better to be safe than sorry. And I bet the price of masks would jack up and people will go fighting over them as if it's wartime. My mom told me that while she was buying chrysanthemum tea yesterday, a police officer bought 20 of it. Good sales for health stores then. Maybe they would be the only people happy about this haze.
